Post subject:  Installing CS produces "Class Not Registered" error

Hi!,
First post. Searched all the forums for "Class Not Registered" error and it came up blank, so this, I think, is a new problem (?). It has manifest itself on my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop running the latest build of Windows 10 pro 64 bit. CS installs ok and there are no problems with any aspect of W10p until maybe the next day, then all of a sudden, windows apps stop working with the error "Class Not Registered". And some give no error message at all. For example - ms solitaire collection on the main CS menu (top left on the menu, used a lot). Click on it and absolutely nothing happens. Just like clicking the air. Any other MS app at all produces the CNR error above. Non MS programs work fine... any and all... no problem.

Uninstall CS and everything goes back to normal. All apps work fine, no errors. Get exited and install CS again and it works fine that day, and next day (after shutdown and restart... even after sleeping computer) things are back to CNR error. So uninstall again and everything's fine.

Which build of Windows 10 are you using?

What happens if you run the app another way, like from the Windows 10 start menu or from a pinned shortcut on the taskbar?

windows 10 build 10.0.10586

and what happens when I run an app from the start menu and from the taskbar is simply nothing. It's like clicking the air (first post). Cortana on the taskbar would not respond. The highlight changed when it sensed a mouseover, but that was that. Clicking produced no results, not even a broken listing in task manager.

I tested it numerous times and couldn't find an answer to the CNR error on the MS forums and so now I have pretty much given up and gone backwards to a non CS windows 10 until a solution.

Thanks,
Peter

If apps can't be launched from the Taskbar too then something is broken with your Windows 10 OS that is not related to Classic Shell.

Press Win+X keys on your keyboard together and click Command Prompt (Admin).

Then type this at the cmd prompt:
sfc /scannow

This may take around several minutes to finish. Restart your computer and check if the problem persists.

Yes, I agree. Something is broken inside windows 10. And as I'm into conspiracy theories, it is my opinion that Ms has done something to win 10 OS that makes it incompatible with Cs. But I know really that I'm blowing in the wind because there are literally 1000's of Cs installs out there that are functioning without a hitch on win10pro. So I'm about to put it down as one of life's little mysteries and use my win10pro install CS'less.

Oh... And yes, I've done the sfc thing a few times with nothing reported as broken.

Thanks for anything you are able to contribute.

Peter
