Post subject: | Hybrid mode is not allowing Windows 10 to correct shutdown |
Hi, I was facing shutdown issues on Windows 10 Insider Preview (always latest versions). I've got the long way to troubleshoot (sfc /scannow, dism, power troubleshooter from Microsoft, etc.). Then I realize that I need to test the default Windows 10 buttons. All of them work: shutdown, restart, hibernate and sleep. But when I use Classic Shell ones: Sleep does not "turn off" the computer and does not keep only the blinking led. In other words, the notebook seems to be on (hot, fan...) but screen always black. Hibernate does the same: computer does not turn off, power led kept on and computer seems to be on. Restart was shutting down the notebook ![]() When I turn off the "Hybrid mode" into Classic Shell settings, everything works again. Weird is that the "hybrid mode" is enabled into Windows 10 power settings. Hope it helps troubleshooting this... |

Sleep and resume related issues are to be expected on Windows 10 Insider Preview builds as Microsoft may have changed the way the OS does these operations. Is your shutdown, restart, sleep and hibernate behavior different for you via CSM vs Windows on a stable build of Windows 10 like RTM or TH2 (Version 1511/November 2015 Update)? If Hybrid shutdown setting of the Classic Start Menu is turned off, it will do a regular shutdown even if Hybrid Shutdown/Fast startup is turned on in Windows Power Options. Hybrid shutdown affects only the Shutdown command, not Restart, Sleep or Hibernate. From an elevated command prompt, run this command: powercfg.exe /a That will say what power states your PC supports although most PCs support S3 unless some drivers are missing etc. Classic Shell requires S1, S2 or S3 to be available, as described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 07(v=vs.85).aspx Also, test with each command multiple times from both menus - Classic Shell and Windows. Maybe the problem via CSM is a one-time occurrence? It might be that Insider Preview build does not work reliably with Sleep, Restart, Shutdown and Hibernate. |

There is no "hybrid mode" setting in Classic Shell. There is "Enable hybrid shutdown". It only affects the Shutdown command. It should have no effect at all on Sleep. The behavior of Sleep does not rely on any settings. |

Are available for me: Sleep (or "wait") (S1 S3) Hibernate Hybrid suspension (or sleep) Fast start Are not available: Sleep (or "wait") (S2) I can't test in normal Windows releases right now, only in the Preview one. But I will test with command line. Thanks for the support. |
