I tried Uninstalling Classic Shell after I updated to Windows 10. It seemed to work until it finished restarting and all I got was a black screen with my mouse cursor. I am able to access the task manager, which I used to try and uninstall Classic Shell again, through the programs and features. However, when I click uninstall it says The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package ClassicShellSetup64_4_2_1.msi.

I have tried two more things at this point to get around this. The first was try to reinstall Classic Shell so that it might uninstall correctly this time. When I try to run the install file it says that Classic Shell is already installed and fails.

The second thing I tried was download the ClassicShellSetup64_4_2_1.msi and browse to it in the uninstall popup that gave me the initial error. Which also fails and says it is not a valid installation package for the product Classic Shell. Try to find the installation package 'ClassicShellSetup64_4_2_1.msi' in a folder from which you can install Classic Shell.

I have searched my computer for this file and it can not find anything. I have checked the ProgramData folder and the only Classic Shell file I see there is a file called update.ver.

Please help me with this issue! My computer is basically unusable since trying to uninstall Classic Shell.

I was able to resolve this error.

For anyone else that might have this issue. What I had to do was go into the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes|Installer\Products and rename the file that was associated with Classic Shell. I believe I had version 4.2.1 and the file name for me was 8FC921C7F9919624AAEE065B8D7D621E. This allowed me to install Classic Shell correctly again.

After it installed correctly I ran the installer again and clicked remove and then restarted my machine. This fixed the issue for me.

When this happens, the correct way to uninstall is to download the installer of the exact version you have from http://classicshell.net/downloads/ and run it. It will give you the choice to uninstall. Then download and install the latest version.

If that doesn't work, download the Classic Shell Utility to remove it: http://www.mediafire.com/download/3ukeryzw41qpfz8/ClassicShellUtility.exe

This for some reason did not work for me on 64bit Win10.
On the other hand, Kyubbi's method worked flawlessly.
