Classic Shell: Forum

I've been using Classic Shell for at least two years now, across a variety of operating systems (Windows 7, 8, and 10). Recently on my Windows 7 computer, I've noticed a problem where the start menu occasionally flashes white when I click on it--that is, a white box in the size of the menu appears for a spit second before the menu loads. This is really problematic, as the white flash can be disorientating when using my computer late at night (I use a dark start menu theme and dark themes for other programs, so the white really contrasts with it).

This doesn't happen every time, but I'd say at least 50% of the time it does the white flashes. The rest of the time, it opens as normal. If the menu flashes white when I open it, then the cascading menus will also flash white--this looks tacky and gets annoying.

I've tried changing my skin, but I've noticed that it happens on any skin I try. It does not happen with the default Windows 7 Start Menu. I disabled a program (DisplayFusion) that affects how second displays work, thinking that would have something to do with the window loading, but I still have the problem with that program disabled. Any ideas? I'm wondering whether this is a bug, or is some result of specific factors on my end that I could possibly fix.

I am using the latest version (4.2.4).

Are you using the Classic or the Windows 7 style? Are your video drivers up to date?

I'm using the Classic style (can't live without the cascading menus), and yes, I'm using the latest drivers. I tried downloading the beta Catalyst Control Center just to see if that would fix it, but it seems to be exactly the same with how often it occurs (it flashes white about half of the time when I open it).

See if disabling the animations will help. In the Menu Look tab look for "Main menu animation".
