I'm aware that Classic Shell isn't officially supported on Server 2012 (or at least it's not mentioned on the download page), but I have successfully run it on quite a few servers running that OS. More curious than anything on this issue. Hopefully, I am posting this in the correct place.

I have two HP ProLiant DL380 G7 servers running Server 2012 R2 Standard x64 (both running Classic Shell 4.2.4). Suddenly, on both of them, I'm starting to get a black screen at Windows login. I can press ctrl+alt+del, log in with my password, and all I get is a black screen with a cursor. I can launch task manager and things like regedit, command prompt, etc, from there, but Explorer just doesn't seem to work at all. Booting in safe mode does not help here. These servers were both fine (with Classic Shell) for days until this suddenly popped up. The two servers are all identical in terms of hardware/OS/configuration.

Another note: this is happening at the console. I actually don't have remote desktop enabled on them.

These servers aren't actually in production yet, so it's not a big deal at this point. I reformatted one yesterday after spending a couple of hours trying to figure out what the problem was, then the "black screen of death" issue happened on the other server today. Classic Shell may have nothing to do with this. Just thought I'd mention it here to see if there's anything that might be worth checking.

At the point this happened, all I'd done on the servers was install the OS, install all drivers/management software, install Classic Shell, and install all Windows Updates I could find (in that order usually).

Server 2012 is supported. It says so at the bottom of the front page: http://www.classicshell.net/
Try uninstalling it, reboot, then install again.

If the black screen issue persists after reinstalling, try the steps Ivo mentioned here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5026#p21404

Also, do you have Radeon graphics? I suspect something with the Radeon graphics driver causes the black screen issue.
