The list of programs in the top left hand pane does not change as I launch programs.
I have tried launching from the search bar, All Programs, windows explorer. The program list stays fixed

The list only shows programs launched from the start menu. Programs started from Explorer, the taskbar, or other locations are not tracked.

This recent programs is presenting quite the problem for me. I have 2 PC's, 1 with the full version of Win7 and the other with an upgrade I'm using from WinXP to upgrade to Win7. The upgraded one is the PC I'm having the recent items trouble with. On my PC with the full Win7 it doesn't add things to a recent items menu, it's like it doesn't exist and it adds whatever I open to the my doc's list, I'm using the classic menu btw. I have tried every single recipe for getting rid of that recent items menu I can find on the web to no avail, is there any info you guys could give me to help me with this problem? Oh, and btw, this program is GENIOUS! an excellent piece of engineering, cheers to you! please email me at metalgina@yahoo.com if you have something that can help me, or just wanna chat or whatever....gina:D

I am not clear as to what happens.

You are saying that "the upgraded one is the PC I'm having the recent items trouble with". Then you say "On my PC with the full Win7 it doesn't add things". So which of the PCs is having the problem?

You are also saying that it doesn't add things, but at the same time you say you are trying to get rid of it.

So please elaborate. What is the behavior you are seeing (be specific), and what is the behavior you expect? A screenshot would be nice.

There are two different lists maintained: Recent Programs and Recent Items (which means Recent Documents). Which list are you talking about and do you want it enabled or disabled? Also, on Windows 7, make sure the Classic Menu is being opened and not the Windows 7 original menu. You can control which menu is opened by mouse left click and Windows key from Classic Start Menu Settings.

I have a PC with just a straight full version of Win7. It's acting exactly the way I want it, which is, it's not adding things to the 'recent items' list, I have NO idea how I did this, and it's adding things to the 'My Documents' list while running the classic start menu, which is what I want. My other PC is the upgraded version from WinXP to Win7, this is the one that's acting up. It's adding things to the recent items list, which I don't want, and not adding items to the my documents list which I DO want! I don't know how to fix it. The main thing to me is the recent items list which when I open something with a long title it screws my entire menu up, I don't want anything added to it, I've tried EVERYTHING to fix this, to disable it, that I've found on the web and nothing works so far. I do want items added to my 'My Documents' list after I use them though, but not the 'recent items' thing, any ideas?

If you are talking about the "recent programs" list in the classic start menu, then you can disable it from the "Special Items" tab in the settings. Look for a setting called "Show recent programs" near the bottom.

To enable tracking of recent documents, right-click on the taskbar and select Properties. In the Start Menu tab make sure that the setting "Store and display recently opened items" is checked.
