Post subject:  Control Panel and Logoff GP Settings

Hello,

I can't seem to get the Control Panel and Logoff buttons to not display with any setting in the Group Policy settings. I am using ClassicShell 4.0.4 on Windows Server 2012, R2. I have set the settings for both Control Panel, and Show Log Off to: Disabled, and Enabled, Locked to this value, Don't display this item (for Control Panel), and have left the box for "Show Log Off" unchecked (or empty) for the Show Log Off option. I've also left them both to Not Configured.

I've also restarted the server after making changes, ran gpupdate /force on the server after making changes, and have deleted any profiles related to the user name(s) I'm using as tests.

No matter what I set it to, whenever I log on as new user, I still see both options in my menu.

Not sure what else to try, and would love any suggestions from anyone to try.

Attached are the other settings I have enabled in the policy settings in case there's something else that might be conflicting with the two settings.

Thank you for your help!

Steve

It doesn't work like that. If you want to control a policy you set it to "Enabled". This means that the policy is enabled, not that the feature it controls is enabled.
Then you set the state to "Locked to this value", and then you set the value - for boolean settings it is a checkbox.

Also, some policies like "Show Log Off" only apply to the Classic styles. Look at the "Requirements" section on the left. If you want to control the shutdown menu items in the Windows 7 style you need the "Shutdown menu items" policy. Read the "Description" section for more details.

Perfect!

I changed my settings under Menu style from Windows 7 to Classic, then things started moving. Reading carefully is always the "gotcha" in tech work isn't it?

Thank you so much, for the quick reply and laser like troubleshooting!

Sorry to have posted this in the bug report section, please feel free to move (or delete) if necessary.

Thanks again!

Steve
