Since installing Classic Shell, my Win 8.1 computer no longer enters sleep mode.

Are you saying that "Sleep" is not available, or it does nothing? What if you try to sleep using the Windows UI and not the start menu?

If I leave the computer idle for 10 minutes, the display does not turn off nor does it automatically go into sleep mode after 20 minutes. I can put the computer into sleep mode using the power button. But at those times when I am working and get called away, sometimes I forget to sleep the computer and I rely on the built in process to do it for me.

Either your sleep is disabled, or some program is interfering with it.

Check: Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options
then check plan settings for your current plan.

If that doesnt work, then something on the pc is probably keeping it awake

Classic Shell should not prevent the computer from going to sleep. You can temporarily uninstall it to verify that.

Yes, some other program might be preventing it from entering sleep. Open Control Panel -> Power Options. Check which Power Plan is active and click the "Change plan settings" link next to it.

Even if you uninstall Classic Shell, your settings will be preserved so you can temporarily uninstall it to verify that it isn't the cause of PC not going to sleep.
