I want to search my own programs which are in some folders only as a EXE file without installation (registry entry). I have still a folder and there the entry of this program in Classic Shell. In attachment Shell1.png you can see at top item "BestueckPr". If I type this word into search box (Shell2.png) I get the message "not found". The search box should at least search all the menu items and it sub folders. (As a check box in settings->Search Box

The search for programs only searches the contents of the Start Menu folder. If it searches all folders hooked to the start menu the search can become really slow because many people have their entire Computer as a folder. You have to move your "my Progs" folder inside the Start Menu folder. |

You can either create/paste a shortcut to your portable programs inside the Start Menu folders at %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs or %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. Or you can add the folder containing the EXEs to your system path from Advanced System Properties. All EXEs in the system path are automatically searched by the menu. See the article: Search box usage to understand what the search box lets you find. |
