My Windows 8 machine auto updated this past Friday I think and knocked out my Classic Shell. When I click on the Internet Explorer on the Start Button from Classic Shell instead of going to my homepage of Yahoo it is totally blank. No address on the address bar, nothing just a totally blankpage. Same way when I click on the Internet Explorer E on the taskbar, nothing but a total blank page. To get to the Internet I have to go to the Windows 8 Desktop and go to Internet Explorer from there. My Classic Shell is now not working, don't know if that is a Microsoft bug or what but it just stopped working and I think it is from that big Security update Microsoft just released. But I am not happy my Classic Shell is no longer working! Can you assist me with this issue?

Firstly, you should know that Classic Shell is only a Start Menu and a set of plugins that add some features to File Explorer and Internet Explorer. It is not a whole shell or environment of its own. So IE home page changing has nothing to do with Classic Shell. You can set it back to Yahoo.com by pressing F10 -> Tools menu -> Internet Options.

The update that got installed may have reset your home page.

If your Start Menu is working, then it means Classic Shell is working. To verify other components of Classic Shell are working ((if you installed them), follow these steps: http://classicshell.net/faq/#explorer_toolbar

Rest of your issues such as blank home page opening are related to Windows. Please ask in the MS forum if you are unable to change your homepage.

Looks to me you are saying that running IE from an icon pinned to the desktop works, and running from an icon pinned to the start menu you get a blank window.
If so, you need to figure out what is the difference between the two shortcuts. Compare their properties side by side.

Aside from IE not working, do the rest of the Classic Shell features work for you?
