Using Widows 8.1 , Classic Start Menu 4.04 - I have a desktop application that installs with an .msi file built using WIX 3.8 toolset under VS 2013. It installs without a problem and a folder containing 4 shortcuts gets added to the classic programs list. When the application gets uninstalled, the shortcuts disappear, but the now blank folder is not deleted. If I look at the metro start screen after installing, I see the folder and shortcuts. If I look at the metro screen after uninstalling, the shortcuts and the folder is gone. If I run this same .msi on Windows 7 using the windows 7 start menu, the folder disappears along with the shortcuts when the .msi gets uninstalled. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to how I can get the blank folder in the classic start menu to be deleted when the .msi gets uninstalled. - Thanks, Bob

Some additional information - I just found out if I run the .msi uninstall as administrator, the blank folder gets successfully deleted from the Classic Shell Programs list. Hope this helps - Bob

This is not a Classic Shell problem. The start menu displays the contents of the start menu folder, whatever they are.

My guess is you have not configured your WiX file correctly. You can look at the source code for Classic Shell 3.6.8 how it sets up its Start Menu folder: http://sourceforge.net/projects/classic ... elease%29/

You can also ask on the WiX mailing list. It is pretty active.

Thanks for your help. I was able to get the folder to delete on Windows 8.1 by adding a WorkingDirectory property to the uninstall shortcut in my WIX file. Their sample in the WIX 3.8 document doesn't have this property specified. I suspect it's has to with Windows 8.1 since the folder was deleted without specifying the property when I installed my application on Windows 7. - Bob
