After installation of Classic Shell 3.6.8, Windows 7 lost resource monitor function (merely a window without contents opens).

Classic Shell is just like a regular program like WinZip or Firefox. All it installs is a Start Menu for the Taskbar and Windows Explorer/IE addons. It doesn't modify other system utilities or files. It can be a coincidence that it stopped working right when you installed Classic Shell.

Try to uninstall Classic Shell from Control Panel -> Programs and Features to troubleshoot the issue (once you've found that Classic Shell didn't break it, you could reinstall Classic Shell). If you still find Resource Monitor broken, then it was not something Classic Shell affected because uninstall removes its modifications.

Identical Problem. I am setting up a new Win 7 computer and paying careful attention to each step and modification made. I checked Resource Monitor for proper operation then immediately thereafter installed "Classic Shell.' Right after that I again checked Resource Monitor and it was a transparent window. Clicking "Start Monitoring" has no effect. Per your suggestion I uninstalled "Classic Shell" and, as previously experienced, "Resource Monitor" is still non-functional. It appears too much of a coincidence for the install not to have affected "Resource Monitor." Please investigate further. Thanks, Mel Kowal

Am unable to show screen shot at this time. "The "Resource Monitor" appears as a transparent frame with a title bar and tools but nothing in the see through middle. I have never seen this sort of phenomenon before. I did a System Restore to a time minutes before the "Classic Shell" install and the "Resource Monitor" returned. My experience seems a strong indication the "Classic Shell" produced the disappearance of "Resource Monitor." Surely others must have had a similar experience.

If Classic Shell is uninstalled, you can be certain that your problem isn't caused by it as it doesn't make changes to OS settings or modify files. All its modifications only work as long as it's installed.

Strange thing still, that Windows 7 behavior! It seems to be an AERO-Design question: When I load another design (i.e. AERO Windows 7 or Windows 7 Basic), then by starting Resource Monitor, it's window contents display correctly (in AERO shape). After then, I load my initially started (classic) design, and Resource Monitor displays correctly in classic manner. STRAAIIIINGE!!!
