The installer stopps at "creating shortcuts" and doesnt do anything anymore. Doing a google about this it seems your installer is not compatible and you have to fix this. Do google "creating shortcuts" and windows 8.1, youll find lots of other software having this problem. So please fix this <now>. |

Looks like something is failing in Windows Installer as reported here for other software as well: http://community.flexerasoftware.com/sh ... -quot-step . I suspect it may have something to do with the Windows 8-specific properties set by the installer on the shortcuts when they are created. You can try running the installer with logging enabled like this: ClassicShellSetup.exe /l* log.txt The log will be created in the same folder as the installer. Attach the log file here so at which step it fails can be determined. |

I was able to install by unclicking the point "create start menu entries". and then it installed fine. |

What is causing it to hang at the creating shortcuts stage will be more clear from the log. |

What is your UAC setting? Are you running the installer as admin? |

UAC settings are default, never changed anything. Yes tried even manually starting the setup exe as admin, though you dont need to I guess because just after the first dialogue an UAC window will pop up and I pressed yes. Doesnt matter. If I stay with default settings (create start menu entries) the installer hangs at that mentioned point, and I wont even be able to abort the installation. |

See if you can capture a log file using the l* setting. It may show what operation is failing. Also you may run a tool like Process Monitor to see what is happening while the installer is stuck. |
