Hello, I have a technical question about Classic Shell, which by the way is an awesome program!! Here's my question, after installing Classic Shell, and tweaking it the way we needed to for a school environment, we noticed that when we are logging onto our network, it seems to slow the start up time down. It takes probably a good 1-3 mins to reach the desktop. Once your there everything functions fine. In the past we have had teachers and students complain about slow start up times. Is there anything we can do to speed up the start up time. We are using HP 3125 Netbooks. I believe they have 2GB of Ram. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. |

Are you saying that if you temporarily uninstall Classic Shell (you can safely do that, all settings are preserved), the startup is no longer slow? And the slow startup happens once Classic Shell is installed? Which Windows OS are you running? |

Hi, Thank you for the reply, we are running Windows 8 on the HP 3125 netbooks. When you run Windows 8, and the initial login screen comes up, I enter my login and and I'm brought right to the metro screen with the apps. However when I install classic shell, and set it to look like Windows 7, after I login in it takes about 1-2 mins before it takes me right to the desktop. It acts like there is a lot of personalization that needs to be done before the desktop comes up. We did however create a user, and set up the desktop for our school use, and copied the default user before logged in for the first time. Would our default profile have anything to do with slowing down the program? Thank you in advance for your help, Angie |

If you did both of these at the same time - 1) install Classic Shell and 2) messed with the profile, and you are experiencing the slowdown after that, then my money is on #2 being the problem. You can verify that by uninstalling Classic Shell from one of your machines. And compare it to another one side by side. If you determine that Classic Shell is the reason for the slow login, then we can talk about further tests to see what part of it is the problem. |

Btw, when you create a user account in Windows 8, it needs to copy all the apps from the default user account to the newly created one. This requires a very substantial amount of time which is what I guess you experienced. It is By Design of Windows 8. Newly created accounts take a very long time to log in for the first time. |
