In the Spillover.png screen shot, note how the first menu icon spills over to the right of each pop-up men's single-letter name. Before Classic Shell, I could control this by jumping into Windows Classic, which has narrower icons, for an unlocked toolbar icon space reduction, then relocking the toolbars and jumping back to Windows Aero. This always worked. However, the icon spillover shown here cannot be improved, at least by me. Therefore, I'm registering this behavior as a minor bug which needs some additional work.

Well, Classic Shell reduces the size that's left for the toolbars by inserting the button. Most likely this interferes with the way the taskbar calculates the sizes of each band when you lock/unlock, so changes like this are inevitable. Same thing will probably happen when you change the resolution. I don't think there is anything I can do, because all those calculations are internal to Explorer. Maybe you can find where that data is stored in the registry and tweak it manually. Or if you can get it to work with the default Windows 7 button, you can disable the Classic Shell button. |

Re: "Same thing will probably happen when you change the resolution." You've solved my mystery, Ivo. I am working with 125% screen enlargement, and have noticed worse misalignments at arbitrary resolutions (105% to 115%). It's only at 125% that everything on-screen falls into place -- except icon bands, as you've indicated. Many thanks for your advice. BTW ... How do I mark this problem Solved? |

Sorry I neglected to mention I use "Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit" on an "HP Pavilion p6210y Desktop PC." Also, at 125% screen resolution (Display Size?) there are other minor misalignments, not all of them in Classic Explorer. I've attributed these to roundoff error in object size calculations. But, after I get used to things I cannot change, they cease to be bothersome. Thanks for your insights. |
