I have updated the operating system to Windows 10. There I deleted the program ClassicShell. Later, I rolled back to Windows 8.1. Now the program does not work and I can not delete or update it.

It asks the file ClassicShellSetup64_4_0_4.msi :(

Download this installer: http://www.oldfoss.com/Classic-Shell/do ... _4_0_4.exe and uninstall it. Then you should be able to reinstall the latest version.

@loginvovchyk, which old version do you have installed? Have you tried downloading its installer and uninstalling the old version?

Hello everybody. I have been using Classic Shell for many years without any problem and I love it and thank you for it. I wanted to tell you that first.
I don't know if I am posting my problem at the right place (in that case, I apologize), but here is my situation:
- I uninstalled CS before upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10;
- I uninstalled CS and cleaned the directory and the register;
- I installed Windows 10;
- I runned several antivirus;
- Unsatisfied with Windows 10, I went back to Windows 8.1;
- trying to install CS again, I couldn't.
Here are some photos:

I hope we can solve this problem. But if it is impossible, that is my fault and I cannot blame anybody but myself.

@all_zebest Go here: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/v8cv2m87ama92/archive There are 2 installers for version 4.2.1 because of an expired certificate issue. Download both and run the first and try uninstalling. If it doesn't work, then the other installer may work. Try running its installer and uninstalling again.

After having tried several times, both 4.2.1files failed to install/uninstall the same way.

Okay, in that case,
1. Try Windows Installer Cleanup Utility: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1741#p8875
2. If that doesn't work either, see this thread for manually removing Classic Shell: viewtopic.php?t=4846&p=20673 It is a rather long, tedious procedure though.

Thanks for taking the time to try to help me.
Unfotunately, I couldn't install Windows Installer Cleanup Utility as shown here:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/iy0s3f03v9kagah/Pb%20Classic%20Shell%204.png
It says: "permission refused" and "error in executing Microsoft VBScript".

I'll try the second way.

I don't know how to "Go to the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder" nor how to "Go to the C:\Program Files\Classic Shell"
I could "Go to theC:\Windows\System32folder and typeregsvr32 /u StartMenuHelper64.dll" however.
I don't know how to change de beginning of the line in the command prompt.

Edit: I coud "Go to the C:\Windows\SysWOW64folder" and typeregsvr32 /u StartMenuHelper32.dll
but not to "C:\Program Files\Classic Shell" Maybe because I had deleted the Classic Shell folder this morning... (I know, I'm an idiot...). So can I skip this step in that case?

Yeah, if you deleted the folder you can probably skip the step. However it is not wise to delete programs like this. There are registry keys pointing to them and if the files are missing bad things can happen. Particularly bad if you delete StartMenuHelper64.dll, that's why for safety I placed it in the System32 folder.

You have to run Windows Installer Cleanup Utility as admin, i have the same error ;) and with admin rights it worked perfectly

I upgraded Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, then install new verion of CS, but same like you i was unsatisfied with Windows 10 ;), so i back to Windows 8.1, afer that it was impossible to launch/install/uninstall CS.
But Windows Installer Cleanup Utility Helped :)

Microsoft discontinued support for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility some time ago because of potential corruption of system files. It was replaced by a Fixit utility available here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mat ... _uninstall

I had the same problem as others regarding the ClassicShellSetup file while trying to install v4.2.4 and also could not uninstall v4.2.1, but using the Fixit utility I was able to uninstall v4.2.1 and succesfully install v4.2.4.

Hope this helps.

As far as I know, the issue with Windows Installer Cleanup Utility was only with chained MSI packages such as Microsoft Office. But yes, if the FixIt works for you, definitely try it first and if it doesn't try the cleanup utility. :)
