Obviously not classic shell but; So.. in the middle of a file transfer my D:\Downloads dir simply crashed. I can access all the sub-dirs (which i have memorised) but any time I try to access that dir directly i receive an "I/O Error" message. Even through command prompt when using the 'dir' command within that directory, it hangs, then returns an empty directory. Booting with linux solves this issue, however I would like to find the root cause, especially if its a hardware issue, warning of impending drive failure. So has anyone else experienced a directory randomly becoming unavailable, while its parents, and children are still fully accessible...? |

Since you have dual boot with Linux, is it possible your corruption is related to hybrid shutdown? viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3415 |

Nope, the linux was on a live CD after the fact; This computer has never been set to duel boot Also I just reinstalled windows 8.1 2 days ago (to change to a bigger SSD) and the problem still persist. Its an HDD that hasn't been removed. Its yet to fail, so Im not sure exactly whats up; either the head randomly hit the platter causing localized damage? or the index is stored on the drive itself, rather than the boot disk? and is corrupt |
