Ignore the VM thing. What version of Windows are you using? Was it an upgrade on top of an existing installation or a fresh install? It would be helpful if you post a screenshot of your Programs menu. |

Different programs use different methods of retrieving the icon. Some of the methods are more reliable, and some provide higher quality images. Classic Shell favors the higher quality because it supports larger size for the icons (like 48x48 or 64x64). |

ClassicStartMenu.exe is not the problem. Its only purpose is to watch when Explorer restarts and re-enable the start menu. You need to enable explorer.exe. |

Looks like you have custom "on-access scanning". See if setting it to Default or Permissive helps. If not, try uninstalling it completely, at least to test if it will help your problem. |

You can't move it back to the start menu. You have to move it in Explorer to this folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Application Shortcuts\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe |

Well, if you have a way of comparing the registry between the two images maybe you can find the difference in the service registration. Also, you may try upgrading from 3.6.2 to 3.6.5 by just replacing the files and not reinstalling. This will keep the service registration from the image that works. |

What program are you trying to find? The start menu shows the contents of the Start Menu folders. By convention that's where installers put shortcuts to the installer programs. Programs that you copy to your machine but don't require installation will not show up. |

If procdump is still running, that means there was no crash, so no files were saved. Press Ctrl+C in the command window, and that should stop procdump. Then try the following command line "procdump -e 1 explorer.exe". This should create a file if there was just an exception without a crash. |
