Gaby, thanks for persisting with troubleshooting this issue. The hangs also happen after Defender is disabled? Have you installed any other AV or firewall? ClassicStartMenu.exe injects itself in Explorer.exe process so your security program may be blocking that causing the hangs. |

@Skyli, FYI, for that you need to add the item called "Recent Items" from the Customize Start Menu. That is the Recent programs list (even if it says "Recent Items"). You can definitely put it below the search box but it will be in a sub-menu as Ivo said. |

If a setting exists in the HKLM branch or in both, it is locked. If it exists only in HKCU branch, it is user-changeable. It's like Group Policy's Computer Configuration vs User Configuration, but unlike Policy, it's not enforced if in HKCU. So more like Group Policy Preferences. |

The dual solution of service+using UserInit will make it foolproof and once and for all end the issues of Metro not getting skipped. There is no harm in leaving behind the entry in userinit too because it doesn't give errors if the EXE isn't found. Microsoft had no right to cripple startup like this. |

First uninstall the installed version of Classic Shell. If you can't find the Win8StartButton uninstaller, install it once and then uninstall it. After you have uninstalled both, look for leftover files in C:\Program Files\<some folder> of Win8StartButton and delete them. Then install Classic Shell. |
