No such supported method but you can try: C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe -nohook However note that it is unsupported. It is only for troubleshooting, not everyday use. Particularly after version 3.9.0, -nohook parameter does not work in all cases and can cause performance issues...

That means Classic Shell Update is unable to access the internet. Your security program or Firewall could be blocking it.

Does Clover have any official notes or info on whether it can be used with other Explorer BHOs and shell extensions?

Their FAQ says:
"1. Code is hastily written, and it has a lot of problems."

So I suspect it is not designed to work with other shell extensions.

Classic Shell does not run on Windows XP. It requires at least Windows 7, although version 3 and earlier ran on Windows Vista.

I installed this NirSoft tool but it appeared in my Frequent list after launching it a couple of times. Classic Shell does not do anything to Google Chrome so such a thing is impossible. If you are using third party (non-standard) Windows themes, then that might be the cause.

I noticed a taskbar skinning incompatibility with StartIsBack++ and Classic Shell too. If StartIsBack++ is used to only customize the taskbar, and Classic Shell is used as the Start menu, the taskbar skinning is completely messed up even if Customize taskbar is off in Classic Start Menu Settings.

@DAOWAce, if you observe that it is not crashing, then you need to create a slowdown dump while it's happening. The dump will capture the state of the Explorer process when the slowdown is happening.
