Actually it is quite important thing to have a classic taskbar under Win10, and running Vista Explorer under Win10 is a solution, only if Classic Shell was working in this setup...

All of the start menu functionality runs inside the Explorer.exe process. The ClassicStartMenu.exe process is not important for performance. You can even kill it and the menu will still work. Well, you are right, it also disables Explorer BHO by default. Well, if to disable Classic Explorer Bar only, the menu item for it still there, but greyed. I think I would not get any closer than this, and it is at least better than having non-greyed and non-working item. Thanks.

I use certain features of Classic Explorer (like the status bar) but I do not use the panel. I tried to disable its shell extension but the context menu item for Classic Explorer panel still remains. Is there a good way to disable the panel entirely and get rid of the menu item as well?

Even if the taskbar is unlocked, the first toolbar next to Start button is not movable.

This is especially annoying because the distance between the Start button and the first toolbar is too small. One has to add an empty toolbar to work around the problem.

Initially it was OK, but then I tried to set a background picture for taskbar and deleted the file. Then the Classic Shell started to crash, and continued even after I put the file back. I installed the 4.2.5 version and the crashes stopped.

Use older Windows version. Microsoft is currently removing features from their operating system rapidly. They somehow decided that less customizations is better, because somebody said them they should be like Mac OS. Nadella even wears jeans in the same fashion as Jobs.

This reg file changes the folder icon and disables the folder thumbnails so that all folders to use the same icon (other thumbnails remain).
This works only on Windows 8 (and, maybe, Win10)!
