Im not 100% but taskbar modifications are a newer feature and its likely they dont support windows 7. there are several other settings that are OS specific.

the app itself is likely creating the shortcut in the start menu folder for windows.
Right click the start button go to settings
search 'pinned'
and select 'use pinned folder'
Hopefully that solves it.

I assume you mean the most recently used programs list..? are you re-using the program after removing it? The default key is shift+windows However this can be changed/removed simply right click the start button and select 'settings' then check 'show all settings' then edit the controls tab to your liking.

Meh i know the overall background can be transparent. the search specifically I dont recall. you've got more skins under your belt than me; so most likely not possible :P. Transparent background is doable, but it can be very distracting, especially if there is a window behind it ;)

Skins are stored in the skins folder in the install directory (default is: C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\Skins)
They need manually backed up. and are not stored in the .xml when you 'save .xml' from classic shells settings.

I have used it on a tablet, and it works fine. (not specifically a surface)

If its windows 7,8, or 10 it should run fine

Im not exactly sure what happened; but its likely that you accidentally closed out of classic shell if you right click the start button there is an 'exit' option. This would close classic shell; Restarting your pc or running the .exe should restore it in this event.

Classic shell is abandonware at this time sorry :( Even if it wasn't abandoned; Microsoft actually removed the folder from windows, so classic shell would have no way to populate the list of games.

The closest thing to that would be creating a custom folder, and linking to its contents, then using some outside script to update shortcuts in the folder.
Not something that can be done without decent coding experience.

The thing is, for many windows 10 start menu is actually nice, because they are accustomed to android on the phone, its an easy transition. and those who arent are more likely to be tech literate (and thus hooked on the old ways) and can solve the issue..
