My 64-bit Win7sp1 Dell laptop is currently using Classic Start Menu 4.0.4. I am not having any problems with it, and I am considering installing it on my wife's new 64-bit Win7sp1 Lenovo Thinkpad T530 Laptop. What are the advantages (if any) for 64-bit Win7sp1 laptops of upgrading from 4.0.4 to 4.0....

Ivo: Thanks for that confirmation that I can put the entire start menu into ProgramData, thereby allowing the admin to make any changes available to all accounts.

I very much appreciate your recent assistance on this and other issues.

The start menu shows the combined contents of these two folders: C:\Users\AccountName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu The second folder is shared for all users and most installers put their shortcuts there. Only admins can write to that folde...

My 64-bit Windows7 sp1 laptop has only one user (me), but two accounts: Admin and User. Currently, Classic Start Menu (v4.0.4, but I am considering v4.0.6 or v4.1.0) is located in two places (one for each account), at C:\Users\AccountName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu If I change some...

Here's the version history: http://www.classicshell.net/history/ For people currently using 4.0.4 I made the "what's new" text to combine the new features of 4.0.5, 4.0.6 and 4.1.0. If you are using version 4.0.6 then "what's new" will only include #1 and #6 from your list. Ivo:...

I am currently using Classic Start Menu (actually all of Classic Shell) v4.0.4. Earlier this week, in my Start Menu I clicked on Classic Shell Update, and discovered that v4.1.0. was out. The Classic Shell Update window listed the following improvement items (I have added the numbers): 1) - Improved...

Thanks again. I am a bit embarrassed that I didn't see that, because it didn't occur to me that a Backup button would have a restore (Load from XML File) command.

But now I am wondering --- for future use --- how to restore a backed up xml file. I haven't seen a setting to do that. Meanwhile, thanks very...

@RNFolsom, you don't need to know the technical jargon to use Classic Shell. You can safely upgrade from any version to use to version 4.0.4. All your settings will be preserved. If your Recent Documents folder is empty, the Windows setting for it might be turned off. Right click an empty area of t...
