I see that 4.1.0 has been released but when checking for updates from 4.0.6 it still says it's up to date. Is this normal? Will our upgrade woes be fixed by doing one last manual update to 4.1.0?

Thanks, that's pretty interesting. Looks like the C:\ProgramData\ClassicShell folder doesn't exist. Create it manually and try again. I had the problem where I would always get "failed to check for updates". I created the folder above by hand and now I can see an update.ver inside it and ...
