OK, thanks Ivo. Yes, I'm using Aero so I'm not sure what the problem is, but I guess it's not related to Classic Shell if it has no effect on the folder band.

Is there any way in Classic Explorer or otherwise to remove the folder band? I think that's the official name for the tool bar with items like "Organize," "Include in library," etc. This hack didn't work for me, and I don't know if it's because Classic Explorer is overriding it o...

Thanks for both your replies. @GauravK, you were right. I feel like an idiot. I didn't know the details bar was different from the status bar, and in fact, I didn't even have the status bar turned on. The actual status bar does work just like it does in XP, including the Recycle Bin.
