I would define category based on function of the app. There may be various levels, general to specific. For example, a music app is clearly just that, but it is also part of the more general "media" category. Other general categories would include security, office, programming, photo, etc....

Please add feature to organize programs by CATEGORY. Category would be user-defined, and possible for some programs to have multiple categories. This way when you need, for example, an image editor, you go to the image editor folder and select from various options.
