@JudMcCranie, please follow the instructions here to disable hybrid boot (fast startup): http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-disable-or-enable-fast-startup-in-windows-8-1/ Thereafter regardless of the method you use, your PC will remain off, and won't turn on again. Well, for me a quicker way to power d...

The red power button with "shut down" in the left column brings up the Windows dialog, and restarts after the power light is off for about 2 seconds. Clicking on the "shut down" button at the bottom of the right column does the same thing. However, selecting the shut down at the ...

I am using Classic Shell (4.1.0) to shut down. When I click Shut Down from the Classic Shell start button, the small window with "Windows 8" at the top and the question "what do you want the computer to do?" and "Shut Down" is selected in the drop-down menu.

Holding down the shift key does work, but the option was unchecked in settings/main menu. To be sure, I checked it, saved, then unchecked it and saved again. It still behaves the same - power light is off for about 2 seconds, then it restarts. And this computer predates Windows 8.

I'm using the current Classic Shell on Windows 8.1, updated. When I select Shut down /shot down, it powers down for a second or two, then powers back up. Is this something related to Classic Shell?

About 2 weeks ago, several people (including me) had problems with Explorer after installing 4.0.5. The problem was quickly fixed. This afternoon, about 6 or 7 hours ago, I started having many problems with Explorer, and I'm wondering if Classic Shell could be the cause. Problems: 1. going to my com...

OK, thanks.

I left it running overnight, with the procdump running, but this morning the problem didn't occur.

OK. So far I haven't been able to crash it. It seems that you have to wait a certain amount of time. Now I'm going to bed - I'll try tomorrow.

A 64-bit version of ProcDump (ProcDump64.exe) appeared in that folder. It isn't in the zip file. Should I use it instead since I'm on 64-bit windows?

Also, yesterday I changed the setting for control panel from link to menu. Tonight I changed it back, but it had no effect on the problem.

OK, I'm trying that. I also have a shortcut to my second hard drive on the desktop, and it does the same thing.

Well, if I exit Classic Shell and end it in Task manager, and wait for a while before clicking on Control Panel, I still have the problem, so it probably isn't with Classic Shell. (When it blanks the icons and they come bask as they were a couple of days ago, it restarts classic shell too.)

Actually, the problem of the icons going away and then coming back in a different place only seems to happen when I click on the Control Panel icon on my desktop. The Control Panel doesn't come up, but after the icons come up, then clicking on the Control Panel icon works normally (for a while).

I upgraded from Classic Shell 4.0.4 to 4.0.5 yesterday, and since then I've had a bit of a problem. Sometimes clicking on things doesn't work. Sometimes when I click on something, all of the icons disappear from the desktop and then come back. Is anyone else having problems like this with the new ve...

I'm using Classic Start Menu 4.0.2 on Windows 8.1. When I used to right-click on the start button, I would see about 10 items, including the Control Panel. Now I only see: Windows Explorer, Open, Open all users, Settings, Help, and Exit. I can't find any option that sets this. Is there a way to get ...
