I turned off the HP assistant. It had a rather large icon in the task bar. That made the bar more narrow.

When I use any one of the XP style Start buttons it partially hides the IE icon in the task bar. How do I fix that? I use Windows 8.1

I did a complete factory restore. I installed Classic Shell and set it up. But each reboot can have a different start menu format. Most of the time it comes up as classic as expected.
