I did what you suggested and more and found out that I can't disable breadcrumbs or hide the search box. As for the Up button, I don't know if we are talking about the same thing. It only shows up on the tool bar as shown on the screenshot I uploaded, but not before or after the Back/Forward button ...

Everything else works like a charm, which makes the problem all the more weird. Maybe I need to do another restore to a point of time when everything was all right.

You have a good point, and it is equally applicable to all the little things running in the background that make the computer humming along the way it does. Yes, it's the status bar I am looking at, not the details pane. It's just impossible to mistake one for the other. The status bar worked perfectly until I did the restore.

Thanks a lot, GauravK. I tried the tweak, and found out that it's not for me. The biggest problem is that you have to keep the program running in the background all time for it to work, which is something I don't like.

I did a restore of my computer yesterday and suddenly found the subject problem. I have checked all applicable settings (Win 7 and CS) and did all the troubleshooting that I could think of, but the only thing shown on status bar now is the number of items in a folder. I find the Show Desktop button at the far right corner of taskbar rather annoying. Is there a way to completely hide/remove the useless button via Classic Start Menu settings? If not, I strongly suggest that this feature be included in future release.
