Well, I re-created the link, pointed it to a location on the F drive, used it, then re-deleted.

Start menu still goes looking for the file, but now it no longer spins up the drive. I am so confused.

So I noticed a few weeks back that my start menu would lag for a second or three before opening. Taking my headphones off, I could quite clearly hear one of my drives spinning up, so the culprit was clear. But I couldnt figure out what had caused it to start happening. First, I turned off jumplists....
